Thumb-clips can be fast and efficient, and I'm not sure why we don't see more of them. The clip depicts a straight OTT cut before the thumb-clip. Interestingly, holding a break above the target cards allows an automatic bottom slip-cut that does not disturb the target cards while securing them in position. Now, the instant the cut is completed, the thumb clip is ready to go.

Note the deck hand in relation to the table's edge—these moves are infinitely safer at the table's edge.
