* Two-step Seconds

False Deals - chapter 5, page 426

The best way to understand this move is to start with a marked deck or one with asymmetrical backs that can be read in the front left corner. Push off two cards and deal the top card, but before the top card clears the deck, read the third card down. If the card is a desired in a four-handed game, for example, push off two more cards as you deal the top card, which has already been pushed off the deck. When you get to the third player, with two cards already in the pushoff position, rock the deck hand to simulate the left thumb pushing off the top card and deal a two-card pushoff second, which should be easy due to the previous steps.

The concept also works for many two-handed games. Three 'reads' and three decisions whether to deal the top card or second card, depending on the game, can result in a very strong edge for the hustler. The two-step second has some interesting applications in stunts: see Stunts, High Cards - Low Cards, pages 933.
