Boxing the Deck
SHUFFLES & CUTS - chapter 2, page 91
To 'box the deck' means to undercut the deck and complete the cut with one exception: the cut must be off-center, so you're generally undercutting one-quarter to about one-third of the deck—in theory, an off-center cut not only kills top and bottom slugs, but it adds an asymmetrical aspect to the shuffle that ensures a better mix. The best and most direct way to fake a box is to undercut, come right over the top, and go directly into a split—depicted preceding the first two riffles in the clip. The move has surfaced in numerous casino scams due to the difficulty of surveillance to read perception of depth. In the third riffle, one half is riffled into a break that allows a slow, final, easy-to-follow cut/box.
