Scrape-cut
SHUFFLES & CUTS - chapter 2, page 71
The 'scrape-cut' comes up frequently in correspondence, but I don't get questions about the method; I get concerns about the uncertainty of whether the timing and rhythm of the move is on point. I believe the keys to this move are threefold: (1) start the cut the instant the hands touch the deck, (2) lift the bottom half off the table a bit to create the space that always exists at the start of a legitimate undercut and (3) avoid flashing the lowermost card of the upper half during the move—simply aim the front side of the upper half at the observers' eyes. If you smoothly hit these technical goals, you're on the right track. Also, intentionally exposing the bottom card of the upper packet can be accentuated in magic for a more deceptive action.
The clip depicts three scrape cuts. The first two are card-table versions (soft and aggressive); the last cut is better suited for magic (bottom card of the top half exposed).
